I’m being a blogger slacker. But WAIT!!!!! There is a GOOD reason!

Ahhh, my few, yet faithful readers.  I have been a total slacker lately when it comes to posting.  My name isn’t Lucy, but I feel like I have some explaining to do.

My amazing brother and sister-in-law are building a home.  Their current home finally sold…2 months shy of completion of their new home.  So, as of tomorrow, we have roomies.  I am perfectly happy and excited to have them here.  It does mean that there will be 4 adults, 4 dogs, a cat, a kitten and an African Grey Parrott in my home, but hey, the more the merrier right?  My husband and I have been joking around and taking bets on how long it will take the bird to learn to say “Damn it Nox (the kitten), GET DOWN” as he has taken to parking his tiny furry hiney in the middle of my kitchen table and in this house, that is unacceptable kitty behavior.  No tables, no counters.  Anything else is ok!

Anyway, my work horse of a sister-in-law has been in and out bringing my house back up to non embarrassing standards because, quite frankly, she didn’t want to live in the mess.  I don’t blame her.  Needless to say, the Get Off Your Booty and Clean Challenge has not been neglected, it has just been so far exceeded, it’s not really fair to post what was accomplished because it certainly wasn’t done in 20 minutes.  My bedroom and closet still need some work though, well, even more work now that my bedroom has once again become the dumping ground for all the stray junk in the house.

Needless to say, it’s busy around this place.  I have a lot on my plate right now, and I really want to do a great job here, so I’ve been slacking.  However, there is a big bright side to all of this, well several actually:

1. My house is actually presentable again.  I wouldn’t be mortified if one of you knocked on my door and wanted to come in.

2.  My lack of writing lately has led me to some major conclusions on the direction I want to take this blog.  I am officially going to be self hosted beginning in July.  Well, earlier, but I need to pull it together first.

You might be wondering what that means.   It means I will have a lot more freedom when it comes to the design and layout of the blog.  You might see huge changes, you might not.  SURPRISE! 😀  It also means I will keep some topics and add a few new ones.  I HAVE to share, that I am very excited to launch a section on the blog for women who work outside of the home including a few group Pinterest boards so we can all help each other out!

Ok, everything else, I am keeping secret until the big “relaunch”.  The blog will still be here, but there will come a time in the near future when it looks wonky while I get it all set up again.  I ask for your patience.

Last, if you want to make sure you do NOT miss the relaunch and you don’t want to miss all of the new content, please grab your mouse right now, scroll to the right side of the screen and click to follow me on Facebook!

31 Days of No Spending Challenge has Commenced!

31 Days of Zero Spending

This post is NOT my original idea.  Please check out Living Well Spending Less for all of the guidelines for this challenge!

It’s here!  The big month where my husband and I take on a monumental financial challenge!  The necessary supplies have been stocked and we’re raring to go!  So far, it’s super easy! *wink wink*.

Tomorrow, my friend Tammy and I are going to go to a class at the local library called Quilting 101.  I’m hoping it’s not someone just showing us every kind of quilting block we can make.    Regardless, it’s free and I am super excited to see what we learn.  It says no supplies are required, so here’s to hoping that works out!  I certainly don’t have any supplies lying around except for another Jelly Roll quilt, that I plan on using for a future tutorial.  Tammy and I also attend an art class there on a monthly basis that is free.  Neither of us have been able to make it there for quite some time, but we’re looking forward to going this month.  I also found several local history classes there, including the evolution of eating out in our area.  That one might be interesting!

I am so incredibly excited to see what this month brings for us financially.  This is our last month of not having to pay health insurance premiums again, so we should have a good chance at really digging in to our savings account and digging into debt.  My husband will receive his paycheck 3 times this month as well, so that makes it even more exciting!  I love those extra paycheck months!  I am also planning on couponing, but only FREE items.  Maybe this will allow me to start enjoying shopping in a healthier way again.

Hopefully, the spring time weather, excluding the nasty storms we get, will allow us to be outside quite a bit more as well.  I have absolutely LOVED how our yard looks since we all worked so hard on getting it nice.  Doing physical labor will also help sweat out nicotine, and of course it’s good for me to be less sedentary, so here’s to hoping it’s not miserably hot or humid during the times we have to work on the yard.  The extra day light is great for getting things done, so it will be interesting to see how much of a war I can rage on our home!

I would love to have some people join us for this awesome challenge!  If it goes well, we might just do it every other month and see how it changes our life!  If you’re interested, let me know, make sure to follow me and link to your site where all of us can follow back!  I hope you’ll give it a try!

You can find general guidelines on how to do a No Spend Month here.

9 Days- Vacation Countdown

The Swan

It’s been almost 4 years since I took one of my favorite photos in Scotland -Four years since my last vacation.

I’ve spent the last few days relaxing a bit because I was stressing myself out over things I want to get finished before vacation, but I need to get back on the ball.  I want this house as clean as possible so when I am on my stay-cation I can relax.  I really need the time to reflect and make some decisions, tinker with hobbies and relax.

However, there are also some things I need to handle during business hours and it will be helpful to get those done while I am on vacation.  They’re small things like moving a retirement account from an old job into an IRA and making a few phone calls etc.  As crazy as it might sound I feel like I need to schedule specific blocks of time out of my day for those things while I am off.

I also feel like I need to try to schedule some time to sew up a few quick skirts since my wardrobe is looking a bit pathetic these days.  I need some new clothes and I have material lying around, so it’s a good idea to get to work on a few of those things.

There is also a sump pump line that needs to be reburied in the yard, but honestly that will depend on if my hubby is working full-time at that point.  It’s not that I can’t do it myself, it’s just likely I’ll hurt my back if I try to do it all alone.  Things to ponder…

When you stay at home on vacation, do you work or play?  A bit of both?

My Wheels Are Flat

Hello there!  If you’ve managed to find your way to this post I’m excited you’re here.  My name is Jillian, and you’re reading my first post on WordPress.  I’ve been remarried for 3 years to an awesome man who immigrated from Scotland to marry me.  We met playing World of Warcraft online (Oh yeah, we’re THOSE kind of nerds) and over time developed a great relationship.  Did I tell you we’re happy and the snookie ookie baby waby lovey dovey kind of people?  There might be the occassional mention of watching lots of forensic shows and certainty I could hide his body.  Aside from that, it’s all Eskimo and butterfly kisses in this house-with a smattering of boob honking.

About four years ago I blogged my heart out over on another site.  My life changed dramatically and I suddenly felt like all of my stories and things going on in my life were just not conducive to blogging.  Who wanted to hear that I hated my job?  Who wanted to see tons of pictures of my dogs?  (Those will still happen, so you’ve been warned!)  Who wanted to see me gain weight and lose confidence in myself?  My photography hobby became boring to me, so why would anyone else want to see my photos? What I did have going for me was an amazing new husband and the beginnings of an awesome marriage.

Here I am four years later on a new mission and dragging my husband along for the ride.  I heard about a concept from Zig Ziglar called the Wheel of Life.

Family

Social

Career

Financial

Spiritual

Physical

Intellectual

The concept of the wheel is fairly simple.  If any area of the wheel in your life is not healthy and happy you have a flat tire and your life doesn’t simply move along as it should.  It has bumps and jerks.  People honk at you and yell for you to get out of their lane.  Life has been honking at me and quite frankly, I am tired of giving it the finger.

This year I made a promise to myself and my husband.  This year is going to be different from the last few years.  We’ve struggled with job loss, financial issues and health issues.  The last few years have felt like we’ve tried to run up a landslide.  I’m done with it.  It’s time to get the air pump out, fix the wheel and get back to driving down the roads we choose.  You’re invited on the ride.

Things I have discovered since my separation

I have been living completely on my own since March 1st of this year for the first time in my life.  I mean, I didn’t always live with my parents, but I always had some kind of roommate situation going on.  I spent the last 7 years, 19 months, and 16 days living with my husband.  Well, give or take a month or two because we technically moved in together about 6 weeks before our wedding.  HEY!  When you find a property that will let you have a 120lbs. dog you take it when you can.

Anyway, it’s been almost 3 months of living completely 100% totally alone for the first time in my life.  I’ve discovered a few things that are both good and bad about it.

I love the fact that I can shut the bathroom door and have some free time without getting interrupted.  The bad side, there is no one there to instantly share an OMG moment with. (Unrelated to the bathroom OMG moment)

I can read a book in almost absolute silence.  Sometimes it is TOO quiet.

I can watch whatever I want to watch on TV, but there is nothing on.

I can sleep in the middle of the bed, but there is no one to throw my leg over.  The next morning I find myself cuddled up to a big wad of covers that I have tangled up in the night.

I can cook whatever I want, but no one else is there to say if it is good or bad.

I laugh a lot more, but there is no one to share that with.  Maybe I should borrow the parrot for awhile.  He giggles back at me, then I giggle at him, and it’s an endless cycle…

Guys flirt a lot more, but they don’t really want a relationship.

I blog a lot more, but the yard doesn’t get mowed!

And the worse of the worst:

I am free to start over (well mostly), and now I HAVE to start over.
