Free Things To Do In YOUR State!

When you’re trying to live a frugal life, holidays and the expectation of creating special family memories can be a strain on the budget.  However, several years ago I stumbled across a website for Arkansas, my home state, that had free activities for the whole state.  My husband and I have used the list repeatedly to find entertaining activities for the cost of gas and a picnic!  I thought since we enjoy the list so much, I would see what I could find for all states and put the listing in one place.  You can use this list to help fill out a vacation, for a day trip, or a weekend away!  I hope you enjoy it!

  1. This is awesome. Never knew there was a Shakespeare theater in my town. This will be useful this summer. We didn’t get to explore the city last summer because of the move.

  2. Live in Indianapolis, FYI the children’s museum is only free on certain days. it is a world class place for family’s but be aware of days and times. Conner Prairie, in Fishers, outside of Indy is also a fabulous place for families to visit, it is free on select days throughout the year as well.

  3. The link says all 50 states but Louisiana (my birth state) is blank! Are there free things to do there? Anyone know?

  4. It’s getting warm here in Southern CA, and the kids will be out of school in less than three weeks (insert panic alarm) so I am definitely gonna check some of these out! Thank you for the time you spent on this!!

    • You are very welcome and I hope it helps keep them busy this summer! It’s getting pretty miserable here too, so I feel your pain!

Thank you for coming by! I always enjoy seeing new faces!

  5. Great list! Thanks for sharing this 🙂 — pinning!

  6. It would be nice if NY didn’t only list something for NYC. NYC is only one part of the state. I live in Buffalo, the other side of NY, and well over 7 hours away from NYC. I appreciate the list anyways.

    • Hello Julie,

I looked for several cities across New York because of that very issue. However, I did not find any links that had “free” things listed for other cities, including Buffalo. If you happen to find some, please feel free to email them to me at and I will be happy to add them!

      • Thanks! I do know a lot of the libraries have different clubs, like the West Seneca library has a free lego club during the school year. If I hear of any, I’ll send them your way. Thanks!
