Well, week 2 ends today. It’s been an interesting week. Unfortunately, my husband had one of his favorite residents pass away at their assisted living facility. We went to the funeral on Saturday. He was genuinely upset when she passed on. From what he’s told me and from what I learned at the funeral she was one heck of a lady and although I didn’t know her, she very much seemed like someone I would have liked to meet. Her family, well, they were awesome. He had to help clean out her room and the family told Rob to take something so he would remember her. He declined, but they insisted they were giving everything away and really wanted him to have a memoir from her. After clearing it with his supervisors…well, they gave us a 42 inch flat screen tv. Since a new tv is something we have been threatening to buy ourselves for Christmas for several years, it was certainly a blessing in this house, and we’re both very grateful to have it!
We had an unplanned $80.00 show up. That was awesome. However, I have not budgeted for my husband to have ANY spending money in over a year. NONE. So, I told him to take the money (because he earned it at work…long story) and to use it how he wished. (He likely won’t be THAT lucky in the future!! Muahawwaahahaaaa!!!!) Yes, I broke the no spend rule. Whoops. Well, I’m a grown woman and I can DO WHAT I WANT! I mean…We’ll try harder this week.
Rob quite responsibly used some of it at Goodwill to buy some new scrub bottoms to match his required uniform. I think that has him just about finished off with uniforms. He also has clothes that fit now since he is one of those people who just drop weight. Jerk.
Rob also took a bit of the money and spoiled me with a movie. We haven’t been to a movie (that I recall) since The Hobbit part 1 came out in theaters. Needless to say, it was nice to get out of the house a bit, and Divergent was a pretty darn good movie. We enjoyed it!
I stuck to our $25.00 grocery budget for 2 weeks. It would seem though that the hubby is out of razors, so I am going to get to get a few for him this weekend. GRRRRR. On a bright note, his paycheck was significantly more than I estimated, possibly because it is a 3 week month and they only withdraw health insurance twice a month? I’m not sure, but it looks like, for the first time in a LONG time, we have ALL of our bills getting paid AND we’re going to be able to transfer money into savings this paycheck. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
We’re both still smoking. I’ve decided to get my exercise bike cleaned off again so that I can spend less time on my hiney, well, unless I am pedaling my bike. I think we’ll start rationing down for the big Memorial Day weekend quit date. It should cut our smoking in half, so while we won’t reach a goal we wanted financially by the end of the month, we will be working towards better health overall.
I’ve also been letting my coupons pile up. EEK! I really need to spend some time on Sunday getting them clipped and tidied back up! Saturday is already booked though! It’s the REAL sewing class for this quilt top:
My colors are going to be A LOT more neutral. I am hoping it turns out like I want it to because I intend on it being a gift later in the year! I’m excited…and suddenly reminded that the purple camo project is still on my machine with the needle down. I guess I will be finishing that off tomorrow!
Has anyone else met any financial goals for the month?
